Overview
High Productivity / Low Cost Solution
The twin-engine of the 657 CAT® wheeled motor scraper has the ability to boost productivity through reciprocal loading assistance. Combine this feature with increased productivity, improved driver comfort, and new safety functions (motorized access system and efficient oil bath discs) and you get a machine that offers high returns in terms of profits and time.
AdvantagesImproved Driver Comfort
Ergonomic controls and a redesigned cabin interior provide a more comfortable and efficient working environment throughout the day
Up to 6% Increased Productivity
Energy efficiency improvements, the use of a payload estimator, as well as new APECS transmission controls, ensure increased productivity
Unmatched Safety
Safety features help improve driver confidence by providing a safer environment for operations: efficient oil bath discs, work area visibility system (WAVS), and motorized cabin entry
Key Features
- Driving Position
- Powertrain - Transmission
- Electronic Orders
Driving Position

Driver Comfort Ergonomic design with ample workspace. Easy-to-use controls that help reduce fatigue, with automatic stops and clicks. Cat Comfort seat with adjustable and swiveling pneumatic suspension, for a more comfortable use of the machine. Heating/ventilation/air conditioning (HVAC) system, defroster, and radio pre-equipment included as standard.
Powertrain - Transmission
Reducers Mounted on the outside, the planetary design reduces torque loads on the powertrain Double-row roller bearings and Duo-Cone™ seals ensure reliability Differential lock promotes traction on slippery ground, reducing tire wear Braking Performance Expanded brake shoes and drums contribute to improved brake efficiency while reducing brake and drum wear Separate front and rear circuits. Secondary brakes engage automatically in case of a drop in service brake pressure The parking brake features a spring clamping and hydraulic pressure release mechanism that activates the maneuvering brakes Torque Converter Increases rim effort, reduces charging times, and eliminates the risk of engine stalling to efficiently transmit power to the ground and move more material.
Electronic Orders

Advantages of Electronic Control Modules (ECM) The ECMs (3 on the tractor, 2 on the rear-wheel drive scrapers) offer the following advantages: Greater fuel economy through engine parameter optimization Increased reliability through driver warnings in case of problems Combining tractor and rear-wheel drive scraper monitoring systems, easy access to diagnostics, and more durable components contribute to simplifying maintenance Reduced exhaust smoke by optimizing the fuel/air ratio during engine startup, ignition, and acceleration The air filter restriction indicator alerts the driver if the allowed limit is exceeded Periodically raises the engine idle speed to keep the batteries fully charged Combined Electronic Monitoring System (EMS III) Monitors the status of the tractor and scraper on the 657G; a single access point for reading fault codes. The tractor and motorized scraper use the same controller for parts compatibility and ease of intervention.
