Key Features

  • Comfortable and ergonomic driving position
  • Powertrain Group
  • Technologies That Improve Quality and Productivity
  • Easy Maintenance
  • Reliable Vibration System

Comfortable and ergonomic driving position

The steering console is equipped with an LCD screen. This screen provides diagnostics and additional data to the driver. Machines equipped with Cat compaction control also display compaction measurements on this screen. A multi-position steering wheel adjusts for added comfort. The adjustable vinyl seat with a seat belt is comfortable and provides easy access to controls and operating information. The 12-volt adapter powers personal electronic devices. A floor mat reduces vibrations. Cup holders are located on the steering column. Large mirrors provide excellent rear views. The driver benefits from excellent visibility at the front; the edges of the cylinder, the edges of the rear tires, and the rear of the machine enhance safety and optimize production. Optional mirrors offer improved visibility to the rear.

Powertrain Group

The GC vibrating soil compactors are equipped with a Cat engine that offers greater efficiency, easier maintenance, significant power, and reduced noise levels.

Technologies That Improve Quality and Productivity

The Cat compaction control can be improved by adding a GNSS mapping antenna (Global Navigation Satellite System) and a dedicated display system. This allows achieving SBAS (Satellite Based Augmentation System) level accuracy, which allows the driver to visually monitor the results, associate them with locations, and record the data for analysis or documentation purposes. GNSS RTK (Real-Time Kinematic) mapping functionality is also available, offering higher accuracy than SBAS technology. Two different compaction measurement technologies are available: CMV (Compaction Meter Value) technology or MDP (Machine Drive Power) technology. Both technologies display real-time measurements on the LCD screen. CMV technology is an accelerometer-based measurement system for granular soils. It is suitable for smooth drum configurations. It works when the drum vibrates, takes depth measurements (1.0-1.2 m (3-4 ft)), and provides the driver with an image of what is beneath the surface. CMV technology can reveal various things to an experienced driver, such as the location of hidden anomalies (buried objects, rocks, clay balls, etc.) or loosely compacted areas. It can even indicate if increasing moisture is necessary to facilitate compaction. MDP technology is an exclusive technology available only on Caterpillar machines. It indicates the soil stiffness by measuring the rolling resistance. It can be used on smooth drums and on smooth drum machines equipped with padfoot kits. Suitable for all types of soil, it works when the drum is stationary or vibrating. MDP technology measures the depth closer to the compacted material layers, at approximately 30-60 cm (1-2 ft) depth. MDP technology is more flexible than CMV technology as it is suitable for all types of soils and measures closer to the surface, allowing for comparison with results from portable measuring equipment such as falling weight deflectometers and nuclear gauges. It does not require the drum to vibrate, reducing the risk of loosening during control rolling.

Easy Maintenance

The design allows easy access to all ground-level maintenance points. Long maintenance intervals increase productivity and reduce operating costs. The oil drain interval for the vibration system is 3 years/3,000 operating hours. The hydraulic oil drain interval is 3,000 hours. The engine oil drain interval is 500 hours.

Reliable Vibration System

The GC vibrating soil compactors offer excellent compaction performance thanks to their high amplitude and static linear load. The GC machines use the proven Cat sealed eccentric weight vibration system. The design of the circuit significantly reduces the risk of contamination, which is common in conventional designs that use metal counterweights. Offering unmatched reliability and performance, the Cat sealed eccentric weight vibration system requires virtually no maintenance, with the first maintenance period set at 3 years or 3,000 hours. An automatic vibration function ensures more uniform compaction. If the vibration is engaged, it stops when the speed of the compactor becomes lower than a predetermined value. When the translation resumes, the vibration restarts at a predetermined speed. This functionality contributes to the high quality and uniformity of the work. The smooth cylinders are perfectly suited for compacting granular materials and can be equipped with an optional padfoot kit for compacting cohesive or semi-cohesive soil.
