Power and Efficiency
C18 CAT® Engine The Cat C18 Engine has been designed and tested to meet your most demanding applications while also meeting Tier 4 Final EPA emissions standards for the United States/Stage IV for the European Union, equivalent to Tier 2 standards. The fully integrated electronic engine controls work in conjunction with the entire machine for increased fuel efficiency. The engine's idle shutdown feature reduces fuel consumption at idle. The engine's delayed shutdown feature ensures longer life. Cat Planetary Powershift Transmission The all-new transmission controls with Advanced Productivity Electronic Control Shifting (APECS) provide extra power on slopes and save fuel by pulsing during gear shifts. Impeller Clutch Torque Converter (ICTC) This device allows operators to optimize efficiency by varying the effort at the machine's rim while increasing hydraulic power. Reduced tire wear. Full throttle gear shifts for shorter cycle times. Smooth approach to the dump area to limit spillage and ensure shorter cycle times. Cat Lock-Up Torque Converter Eliminates torque converter losses while reducing circuit temperature. Improves travel speeds. Reduces cycle times in loading and hauling applications. Economy Mode Ensures optimal productivity and efficiency throughout the day, every day. The advanced technologies of the 988K systems allow you to save fuel. With on-demand acceleration, the 988K automatically manages engine speed while the operator focuses on the left pedal and equipment control. Provides the operator with the same control and sensitivity as the traditional throttle lock function. Combines the efficiency of manual acceleration with the ergonomics of throttle lock. Reduces fuel consumption by nearly 20% compared to the 988H model.

Counterweight The 988K Block Handler offers stability and longevity with an optimized counterweight for block handling applications. High Rim Pull Powertrain The 988K Block Handler is capable of moving the heaviest blocks out of your quarry. The high rim pull powertrain is equipped with a torque converter and a transmission specifically designed for this application to optimize rim pull. Quick Coupler Activation The block handler includes an additional hydraulic valve with the quick coupler, allowing the operator to change work tools and immediately lock the work tool during loading and transport applications. Larger Lift and Tilt Cylinders The 988K Block Handler is equipped with larger lift and tilt cylinders on the linkage, which allow for better load control and ensure safe and durable operation. Anti-Stall Control The anti-stall control relies on an accumulator that dampens the movement of the linkage, acting as a shock absorber. It ensures smoother travel on rough terrain for increased comfort at high speeds. Optimized Z-Linkage Linkage specifically designed to optimize lifting capacity in block handling applications. Absorption of high-stress loads by solid steel handling arms. Increased strength in key areas thanks to the use of monoblock castings. Longevity and increased repair intervals thanks to stress-free handling arms.

Integrated Steering and Transmission Control System (STIC™) Benefit from maximum responsiveness and control with the STIC system, which combines direction selection, gear selection, and steering into a single lever. A simple movement of the lever to the left or right allows for turning left or right, minimizing driver effort. Ultra-easy gear selection at the touch of a finger. Smoother, faster cycles and less fatigue for operators thanks to integrated controls that require minimal effort. Cat Planetary Powershift Transmission Your success depends on a superior transmission specifically designed for mining applications. Smooth and efficient gear shifting thanks to integrated electronic controls that use the Advanced Productivity Electronic Control Strategy (APECS). Longevity and reliability ensured by heat treatments and metallurgical processes on the gears. Four forward gears and three reverse gears to adapt to all your applications. Cat C18 Engine The exceptional lifespan and efficiency of your 988K Wheel Loader come from its Cat C18 Engine. Its 6 four-stroke cylinders naturally provide optimal performance. Optimized performance and quick engine response thanks to an electronic control module. Reliable efficiency with perfect control of timing, duration, and injection pressure thanks to the electronically controlled mechanically actuated unit injector system (MEUI™). Increased engine lifespan and improved energy efficiency thanks to lower rated speed. Compliant with Tier 4 Final EPA emissions standards for the United States/Stage IV for the European Union, equivalent to Tier 2 standards. Impeller Clutch Torque Converter (ICTC) and Rimpull Control System (RCS) Reduce your cost per ton by using advanced ICTC and RCS systems to control rim effort. Reduce tire slippage and wear by controlling rim effort from 100 to 25% using the left brake pedal. Once the position corresponding to a 25% reduction in rim effort is reached, the pedal is used for braking again. Decrease the risk of wheel slippage without reducing hydraulic efficiency thanks to RCS. Improve energy efficiency in certain applications with the lock-up torque converter allowing for direct drive.
