Next-generation performance
Have more weight and power than with the D7R to move an additional 11% of materials per hour. Up to 10% more push efficiency: move more material per liter/US gallon of fuel. The fully automatic four-speed powershift transmission with lock-up clutch is constantly adjusted for optimal efficiency and ground power without additional driver intervention. The SU and S blades are larger (+10%) to allow you to complete your tasks in fewer passes. FirstCut™ Cat cutting edges (optional) that increase blade payload by up to 35% compared to standard cutting edges. Better steering with load for greater productivity. The long undercarriage is standard, with more chain at the rear of the machine for better push performance. All comparisons are made relative to the D7R model.
Comfort and visibility
The cabin, completely redesigned, is more spacious, offers incredible comfort, and allows for great productivity. The rollover protection frame (ROPS) provides more visibility on the sides of the machine. The standard 203mm (8-inch) instrument cluster interface dedicated to the driver provides a clear view of functions and settings and the machine/maintenance. The air suspension seats feature multiple adjustments for personalized comfort. The cabin's heating/air conditioning system allows air to circulate more efficiently around the driver and reduces fogging and frost on the windows. More storage spaces in the cabin. A wide variety of cabin options add safety and comfort: - A 254mm (10-inch) touchscreen display with a user-friendly driver interface. - A high-definition rear camera is clearly displayed on the main screen. - The entire armrest adjusts forward or backward, independently of the seat. Driver assistance
Assistance functions make the work of drivers easier, especially for less experienced ones. Some functions of the blade and steering are automated, allowing less experienced drivers to work at productivity levels closer to those of their more seasoned colleagues. Experienced drivers will benefit from reduced effort and fatigue levels, as well as faster and more accurate results. GRADE with Slope Assist™ automatically maintains the preset blade position without satellite/GPS signal: no additional hardware or software is required. For machines equipped with 3D technology, drivers can easily switch from full 3D automation to the Slope Assist function. Steer Assist automates chain steering and blade tilt. It helps reduce driver fatigue by automatically maintaining straight travel with light or heavy loads, on flat or sloping terrain. It helps reduce steering actions by up to 75%. No satellite/GPS positioning system is required. The stable blade seamlessly works with driver interventions to help produce a smoother surface during manual use. The blade load monitor provides real-time feedback on actual load compared to optimal blade load, based on your terrain conditions. Actively monitors machine load and chain slip to help achieve optimal pushing capacity.* The traction control automatically reduces chain slip to save time, fuel, and reduce chain wear.* AutoCarry automates blade lifting to help maintain a constant blade load and reduce chain slip.* Slope Indicate is included in the machine's main display and indicates the degree of side slope and uphill and downhill leveling. This function helps drivers perform work on slopes. The best leveling
The Cat Grade functionality with integrated 3D module uses satellite/GPS to control the blade and execute design plans more quickly. Cat Grade with 3D module does not have a mast, the small antennas are integrated into the cabin roof and the satellite/GPS receivers are mounted inside the cabin to ensure better protection. Automatically follow the guidance lines of the design plans with Steer Assist 3D. Respect curbs, centerlines, bottom of the slope, and others without driver intervention. Chain steering is used for light loads. In the case of heavier loads, it is possible to add blade tilt steering. The Grade driver interface is intuitive and easier to use: 10-inch (254 mm) touch screen, SE Android platform operating like a smartphone. All Cat Grade systems are compatible with Trimble, Topcon, and Leica radios and base stations. Have you already invested in leveling infrastructure? You can install Trimble, Topcon, and Leica leveling systems on the machine. Premium cabins and cabins for applications generating a lot of debris are pre-equipped for third-party leveling control. They are equipped with a CAN interface, beam passages, and mounting devices, which facilitate the installation of the leveling control system of your choice. Note: Grade (leveling) functions require a Premium cabin or a cabin for applications generating a lot of debris.
A proven advantage
The Cat Assist and Cat Grade technologies work in the background to assist tractor drivers, regardless of their skill level, and are particularly beneficial for less experienced drivers. To demonstrate the significant usefulness of these integrated technological features, Caterpillar put them to the test. Two novice drivers and two expert drivers performed localized backfilling, spreading and leveling of sand by dump truck, as well as work on side slopes. Each driver made three passes for each task: one pass in manual mode, one pass using the Assist technology features, and finally one pass using both Cat Assist and Cat Grade with 3D module. The evaluation team measured productivity*, efficiency**, completion time, quality of the final surface, and driver interventions for each pass. Localized backfilling Productivity and efficiency: novice drivers went from 9% lower productivity and efficiency than experts in manual mode to equivalent productivity and efficiency as experts using the Assist function. Spreading and leveling of sand by dump truck Completion time: novice drivers took 49% longer than experts in manual mode, but reduced this gap to 17% using Assist and 9% by adding Grade. Blade interventions: novice driver interventions on the blade were reduced by 45% with the Assist function, and by 55% when combining the Assist and Grade functions. Expert driver interventions on the blade were reduced by 32% with Assist, and by 53% when combining the Assist and Grade functions. Surface quality: the surface quality achieved by novice drivers improved by 51% thanks to the technology, while the surface quality achieved by expert drivers improved by 27%. Novice drivers using the technology produced surface quality similar to that of expert drivers in manual mode. Side slope/Assisted steering Steering inputs - Both novice and expert drivers saw a 75% reduction in steering inputs in forward motion and a 67% reduction in combined forward and reverse motion. *Material moved per hour **Material moved per unit of fuel/diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) Study conducted by Caterpillar in August 2022 Note: The Assist functions require a Premium cabin or applications that generate a lot of debris.
Because productive time matters
The carrier frame features larger roller shafts that extend the lifespan and facilitate cleaning. An optional variable speed hydraulic fan with reverse direction helps you remove debris while you work, saving you cleaning and maintenance time. The extended lifespan of the LED headlights saves you time and money. Optional features allow for easy access to the underside of the cabin floor when needed, as well as cabin removal in 30 minutes. Optional platform with guardrail for more convenient refueling. The standard tractor has a shipping width of 3.7m (12 feet) for easier transportation with integrated blade.
