The Productivity
The 785D is powered by the 3512C HD engine, a twelve-cylinder four-stroke engine that uses long and efficient engine timing for more complete fuel combustion and optimal energy efficiency. The 23% net torque reserve provides unmatched overload strength during acceleration, on steep slopes, and on uneven terrain. The torque reserve adapts to gear shift points to ensure maximum efficiency and fast cycle times. The mechanical drive train and Powershift transmission provide unmatched efficiency and control on steep slopes, unstable ground, and tracks with high rolling resistance. The engine provides additional braking by working against compression, with zero increase in fuel consumption, on downhill routes, which increases energy efficiency.
Security
Access and egress are safer thanks to the 600 mm (24 in) wide diagonal ladder, non-slip surfaces, handrails, and optional electric access ladder. A patented braking system provides immediate and durable braking and deceleration, improving maneuverability. The 785D is designed to offer excellent panoramic visibility and clear sightlines, enhanced by wide-angle mirrors and the MineStar™ Cat object detection system, which combines radar and camera systems to alert operators to the presence of light vehicles or stationary hazards in close proximity to their machine. Dumping operations are safer thanks to a dump body lift indicator, a dump body retention cable, and a reverse neutralizer during dumping. Shields on the front and side platforms prevent technicians from slipping and tools or loose items from falling off the platform during maintenance or servicing operations.
Driver Comfort
Operators benefit from an ergonomic layout, excellent panoramic visibility, and controls, levers, switches, and gauges positioned to facilitate their use. The monobloc soundproof ROPS/FOPS cabin is resiliently mounted on the chassis to isolate the driver from noise and vibrations for a quiet, safe, and comfortable ride. The cabin is equipped with numerous features that enhance comfort and reduce fatigue, such as an air-suspended seat, vibration reduction, air conditioning, and soundproofing.
Easy Maintenance
The time spent on regular maintenance procedures is reduced thanks to easy access to daily maintenance points and key components; ground-level access to tanks, filters, drains, and engine shutdown; a maintenance platform that allows access to the engine, steering hydraulic tank, and battery compartment; and an optional quick-fill maintenance center that allows for quick fuel and oil exchange. Thanks to easy maintenance and 500-hour maintenance intervals, the machine combines a high level of availability and productivity. The electrical connectors are dust and moisture resistant, the harnesses are braided for protection, and the wires are color-coded to facilitate diagnosis and repairs. The onboard VIMS diagnostic systems continuously monitor all machine functions and vital parts to quickly locate anomalies and expedite repairs.
Durability And Long Lifespan
With a box-type design including two forged parts and 24 cast parts in areas subjected to high stress, the chassis of the 785D also features continuous penetrating and enveloping welds that prevent damage from torsion without overloading the machine. The mild steel chassis offers flexibility, durability, and impact resistance. The wheel assemblies offer a longer superior lifespan, resulting in fewer replacements for increased availability and fewer unplanned maintenance. Component lifespan is improved thanks to the standard equipped rear axle continuous filtration function. Cleaner oil promotes lubrication, extending lifespan. Productive time is improved through scheduled replacement intervals targeting up to 20,000 SMU for the engine, plus component standardization with proven 3500 HD engines. The chassis, powertrain, engine, and components are designed to be refurbished to provide multiple lives of like-new performance at a fraction of the new price.
Durability
We have designed the 785D with a number of improvements that reduce the impact on the environment. Features such as engine oil renewal systems and continuous rear axle filtration reduce the amount of waste discharged into the environment. The engine provides additional braking by operating against compression on downhill routes. During braking applications, the engine's ECM does not inject fuel into the cylinders, which results in exceptional fuel economy. We continue to explore alternative energy sources such as biofuels and a dynamic gas blending solution provided by liquefied natural gas, and we are implementing power options such as electrification and trolley to find new ways to reduce emissions. Cat engines are compatible with diesel fuel blended with low-carbon intensity fuels, such as FAME biodiesel (fatty acid methyl ester). They are also compatible with renewable fuels such as alternative fuels HVO (Hydro-treated Vegetable Oil) and GTL (Gas-to-Liquid) that replace diesel. HVO and GTL can be used in all Cat engines, regardless of the blending level and up to 100%. By refurbishing machines and components, Cat Rebuild and Cat Reman programs, which preserve raw materials, save energy, and reduce emissions.
Technological Solutions
MineStar Fleet is a fleet monitoring system that allows for the measurement, management, and optimization of all transportation operations. The MineStar Detect driver safety system intervenes when it detects fatigue or distraction. Machine condition monitoring solutions enable a proactive approach to maintenance.
