Optimize Performance

740 EJ - Optimize Performance

Each Cat engine compliant with Tier2/StageII or equivalent standard is equipped with a set of proven components for electronic, fuel, air, and after-treatment circuits. Technologies adapted to each application allow for the following results: Proven electronic, pneumatic, fuel, and after-treatment components for peak performance, longevity, and emission control. Increased fuel savings. Reduced maintenance costs. Advanced MEUI-C electrically controlled mechanical unit injectors provide higher injection pressures and improve injection rate accuracy. These durable injectors enhance responsiveness while controlling soot levels. An innovative air management system optimizes air flow, power, efficiency, and reliability. The Cat High Density Power Shift (HDPS) nine-speed forward and two-speed reverse Powershift transmission, specifically designed for articulated trucks, features the Advanced Productivity Electronic Control Strategy (APECS) and Electronic Clutch Pressure Control (ECPC) for smooth gear shifting, improved acceleration, and increased productivity. Gear changes are configured to maintain direct drive lock-up and eliminate converter drive engagement to maintain ground speed and uphill performance. A high-capacity torque converter transmits maximum engine power to the drivetrain.

Automatic commands

740 EJ - Automatic commands

The Advanced Automatic Traction Control (AATC) proactively applies axle differential locks and inter-axle locks "on the fly", allowing operators to freely focus on driving/loading/unloading maneuvers. Sensors monitor the machine's speed and wheels, enabling instant reaction when there is high rolling resistance. The operation is continuous and smooth, thus eliminating wheel slippage for optimal traction and productivity. The clutches are automatically disengaged if the nature of the ground allows it, in order to maximize efficiency when steering or operating on rough terrain. The AATC also reduces stress on tires and the powertrain, eliminating machine efficiency losses due to incorrect manual use of differential clutches and reducing tire wear. The automatic retarder control automates the use of the retarder for the driver. Like the AATC, many aspects of machine operation are monitored. If necessary, the engine compression brake is automatically engaged to control the machine's speed when going downhill. The system can help eliminate engine overspeed, improving safe machine use and reducing cycle times while offering the flexibility of manual control if needed. Materials can be automatically ejected from the dump body using the new assisted ejection control. Press the new load ejection switch for the machine to apply the parking brake, put the transmission in neutral, and eject the materials at the required engine speed. Blade retraction is done in the same way, press the switch for the machine to fully retract the blade."""

Extra-strong construction

740 EJ - Extra-strong construction

The three axles promote stability thanks to oscillating A-frame chassis with lateral tie rods. You can work at speeds that ensure your productivity with confidence while virtually eliminating impact loads on the dump truck components. The front suspension oscillates under the control of large-bore, low-pressure cylinders to provide a smoother ride. An A-frame with lateral tie rod controls lateral movement and helps stabilize the axle. The rear suspension features a step and long-life suspensions that optimize driving and load retention. A new fully undercarriage-mounted oil bath disc brake system prevents the introduction of polluting substances, extending the machine's lifespan and increasing its uptime. Hill start assist reduces the risk of rollback on slopes. If the operator stops the machine on a slope, the machine automatically maintains the parking brake for a few seconds when the parking brake pedal is released to prevent the machine from rolling backwards. The hold brake system applies the parking brake when the transmission is in neutral, allowing for simple and quick control of the machine within the loading or unloading area.

Mastery and driving comfort

740 EJ - Mastery and driving comfort

A spacious cabin ensures the driver's comfort throughout their shift in a 7dB quieter environment than the previous model. An intuitive lever combining ejection/transmission improves cycle times by reducing control movements. The trainer/passenger seat is fully padded, with a wide retractable seat belt ensuring safety and comfort. The redesigned and spacious side storage compartment is heated or air-conditioned by the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) system according to the driver's preferences. The pneumatic suspension seat offers better comfort and a wider range of adjustments. The front/rear insulation significantly reduces vibrations and shocks. Every operator will find the adjustment that suits them for a comfortable and controlled shift. The standard cooling/heating system ensures comfort in all circumstances. The optional four-point seat belt for the driver allows the operator to remain comfortably positioned on all terrains. Thanks to the integrated panoramic dashboard, the driver has easy access to all indicators and controls of the machine. You will experience the same sensations as in a car and have the industrial power you expect from Caterpillar. The redesigned touchscreen dashboard allows the driver to monitor and adjust various functions related to the machine's condition and performance, as well as machine warning categories. These include configuration settings, driver and machine totals, maintenance information, various machine status parameters, machine payload information (if applicable), stabilization system, and rear vision camera video. Make and receive calls in the cabin via the optional Bluetooth entertainment system.

Designed to be efficient

740 EJ - Designed to be efficient

The 740 EJ can evacuate and disperse material while moving, avoiding the use of other spreading and pumping equipment. "On-the-fly" ejection results in faster cycle times and lighter loads for the powertrain. Ejecting the load without raising the dump body increases stability, allowing for unloading on inclined surfaces or slopes and in loose soil conditions, including landfills. The dump truck can eject its load in tight spaces above the machine, such as near overhead power lines, in tunnels, and in underground operations. Thanks to the design of the dump body, there is no material residue left in the body, increasing productivity, optimizing energy efficiency, and therefore reducing cost per ton. The reinforced dump body is made of thick, heat-treated, high-strength Brinell hardened steel (Brinell400 on the base and sides), offering exceptional longevity. The upper rails of the ejector are made of special high-strength steel. For optimal lifespan and wear resistance, the ejector dump body is designed for applications where stones have a maximum diameter of 152mm (6in). The ejector blade is made of high-strength steel and relies on a proven technology similar to that used on Cat motor scrapers. A double-acting, high-speed, four-stage ejector cylinder has been specifically designed for horizontal mounting, allowing for consistent ejection of the load. The front chassis has a high rigidity with oversized box sections, capable of withstanding heavy stresses. The chassis design reduces stresses at the articulation and optimizes suspension geometry. The rear chassis with double box sections reduces stress points and improves lifespan. The articulated hitch provides steering for the dump truck by articulating the chassis, while oscillation ensures ground contact of all wheels on rough surfaces. The field-proven two-part articulation structure includes a cast steel head bolted to a wear-resistant forged steel tube. The articulated dump truck body 740 EJ has a large receiving area that consistently ensures high load capacity. The design of the ejector blade and dump body allows for clean material discharge, optimizing production and avoiding incomplete dumping of the body. The transfer case distributes power between the tractor and trailer. It includes a wet clutch differential lock for optimal traction on unfavorable terrain. The full-power hydraulic braking system operates oil-immersed multidisc and multiplate brakes with independent front and rear circuits and accumulators. This dual-circuit braking system on all wheels provides the required braking performance for maximum productivity. The spring-loaded, hydraul
