The CAT® 6040 hydraulic mining shovel is approved on sites worldwide because it consistently delivers the productivity you expect and the long lifespan you anticipate. This proven shovel is known for its superior performance and high reliability, and it benefits from the support network of Cat dealers in the field.

But we are always looking for ways to improve the 6040. We have made enhancements that allow for maximum production, fast cycle times, while providing high digging forces. We have increased the uptime of the 6040 by making it more reliable and easier to maintain. And it is now available for countries with stricter and less strict standards with engines compliant with US EPA Tier 4 Final/European Stage V standards, without the need for diesel exhaust fluid (DEF), which saves time and reduces maintenance costs.

Security

The safety glass on all windows and the armored windshield protect the drivers. An easily accessible standard stop switch located in the cabin allows the electrical circuit to be cut off in case of emergency. Safer access and exit thanks to a 45-degree hydraulic control access ladder and an emergency exit ladder with an automatic closing door located in close proximity to the cabin. Safer maintenance thanks to a cabinet with a lockable starter and battery isolation switch, and improved sealing between the engines and hydraulic pumps, better routing and separation of hydraulic pipes and electrical cables. Excellent visibility, improved by an optional two-camera system and standard high-brightness LED projectors and maintenance lighting.

Maintaining ambient temperature with an optional dual HVAC system. Easily accessible ergonomic manipulators with an electro-hydraulic servo control that provides dynamic and precise response without hydraulic pipes present in the cabin. Clear organization with reduced sound emissions, with no hydraulic pipes in the cabin or cabin module. Multi-adjustable pneumatic seat with heating, plus auxiliary instructor seat with retractable seat belt.

Reliability And Longevity

Turret frame and tractor frame with extra-strong CAT® undercarriage, which extends lifespan by up to 30%. Fixed axle rollers and extra-strong idler wheels offer superior performance, longer useful lifespan, reduced internal friction and overheating, and eliminate the need for grease consumption and number of conduits. Complete extra-strong chain that allows for high loads on the terrain and reduced pitch extension wear, increasing chain lifespan by 20% to 40%. Structures designed and manufactured to withstand the most intensive excavation conditions, with high-strength steel, extra-strong castings at equipment pivot points, and up to 18% higher operating weight. The new Cat type 4 air filters and pre-filter dust evacuation system are sized to optimize overall air filter lifespan.

The durable C32 Cat engines offer unparalleled performance, high power output, proven reliability, and have demonstrated their ability to withstand the harsh conditions of mining sites worldwide. Fast cycle times and improved energy efficiency thanks to a closed-loop circuit, which also generates less heat. Better operator control thanks to a hydraulic circuit with five hydraulic circuits that allow simultaneous control of two cylinder movements, two translation movements, and orientation. Safer, simpler, and faster mound digging operation thanks to a unique TriPower design, which generates superior mechanical leverage and control. Increased productivity and superior availability thanks to the twin engine concept, which allows up to 65% full production capacity with a single engine.

Soil Attack Buckets and Tools

Buckets and ground engaging tools designed to optimize long lifespan and productivity, and ideally suited to your excavator and application. Integrated to function as part of a machine circuit, allowing you to achieve optimal productivity levels and minimize cost per ton. Variety of sizes and wear packages for ideal adaptation to your excavator and application. Achieve optimal payload in combination with Cat ground engaging tools and wear components. Wear sets that protect your investment, including special reinforcement material and lip protection, fin guards, and heel guards.

Easy Maintenance

Better organized hoses and components, plus integration of Cat hoses and fittings, offering unmatched reliability and performance as well as the possibility of local supply. The maintenance station allows easy access to the following functions: coolant, hydraulic oil, swing system gearbox oil, grease, diesel, and engine oil. Reduced maintenance downtime thanks to increased engine oil and engine filter replacement intervals, which go from 500 to 1,000 hours. The clear layout of components on the superstructure facilitates access and maintenance of coolant expansion tanks, air intake filters, oil tank breather, heating/ventilation/air conditioning unit, grease tank, exhaust, starter, and battery isolator. Simplified access to swing gearboxes, rotary manifold, high-pressure orientation filters, and travel displacement valves.

Durability

The C32 Engine, subject to very strict standards, complies with Tier 4 Final EPA emissions standards for the United States/Stage V for the European Union without requiring diesel exhaust fluid (DEF), which saves time and reduces maintenance costs. Less heat and increased efficiency thanks to the closed-loop circuit. Reduced waste production and lower operating costs due to increased system and component similarity, as well as a reduction in unique part numbers. Preservation of raw materials, energy conservation, and emissions reduction through the Cat Reman program, which restores end-of-life components to a like-new condition.
